Tips to increase your appliances' effectiveness, efficiency and longevity:
1st tip - Get surge protectors for any appliance that has a computer circuit board in it. Most new appliances have computers in them especially the high end ones. A $20 surge protector can save a $250.00 computer circuit board.
2nd tip - Almost all Americans use too much soap. The manufactures love us.
Use less, not more!
Washers:
1) Always check pockets - We've seen numerous washers need repair because of a pen or paper clip destroying the water pump and our customer ended up with a floor full of water.
2) Less clothes, more water - Overloading your washer causes unnecessary strain on your washer. Be sure to use ONLY HE products with your front load washer.
3) Use less soap! - Too much soap gums up the inner workings of your washer causing unnecessary repair. Highly recommend Amway's SA8!
4) Be careful not to let the lid slam on a top load washer. Set it down gently. Many a safety lid switch has broken and rendered the washer useless.
5) On front load washers, leave the door slightly open to allow the moisture to dry out in between wash sessions. This will prevent mildew and odor.
6) If you already have an odor on your front load washer, purchase a package of "Afresh" and use 3 tablets with no clothes. Run washer at least once per month with 1 tablet.
Dryers:
1) Always check pockets - We've found as much as $15.00 in a dryer. Coins and small metal objects get lodged and make noise.
2) Always clean out the lint screen after every load, and keep your vent duct on the back of your dryer clear.
3) Electric dryers sometimes stop heating, but still run because the breaker is half tripped. Always check your breaker first before contacting a technician!
Refrigerators & Freezers:
1) Keep your temperature settings as close to the center as possible.
2) Frequently clean off the lint from the condenser (the metal tubing on the back or underneath the machine).
3) Cover food! - Food dust can blow around and clog the defrost drain causing an unnecessary repair expense.
4) Don't overstock where food is blocking vents and airflow.
Dishwashers:
1) Rinse all food off of plates and glasses.
2) Run the hot water at the sink before starting your dishwasher.
3) Use less detergent! - Really a pinch in each receptacle is all that is needed. Excess food or detergent can gum up a machine's parts and cause it to stop washing your dishes thoroughly or worse.
Stove, Ovens, Cook tops:
1) Clean it often.
2) If your knobs require you to push them in before turning, do so. Don't force them.
Disposals:
1) Run cold water when using, don't run dry.
2) Avoid "slippery" foods.
3) Put a lot of ice in to clean and sharpen the "choppers".
4) If it jams, there is often a reset button underneath or a spot for an Allen wrench (hexagon head) to turn the disposal and free it. This can save an unnecessary repair expense.
Microwaves:
1) Never put metal inside a microwave.
2) Clean often - Put 5 cups of water with a little lemon juice in a glass measuring cup and "cook" for 5 minutes. Then let it sit in microwave for 5 minutes and then wipe down interior of microwave.
3) Always cover food when cooking. Only use "Microwave Safe" kitchenware in a microwave.
LCD, Plasma, DLP and Rear Projection TVS
1) Be sure you run your TV signal through a surge protector! (True for a computer's internet connection also)
